There are various styles as far as dog obedience training is concerned, but the most popular two styles are reward training and leash/collar training. Lay the wheel on the stand with the valve stem up. Put on safety glasses or goggles and remove the valve stem core with the valve tool. Once the tire deflates, push down on the tire as if you are trying to roll it off the rim toward the ground. An extra pair of hands is very helpful here. Place the wooden beat-block as close to the bead of the tire as the rim will allow. Beat on the block with the rubber mallet until the bead starts to separate from the rim. Continue pushing down and work your way around the tire until the entire upward-facing bead is loose from the rim. The tire should now be loose and free to rotate around the rim. You need to have a Tire Mounting Tools if you have a car etc.

Wet the bead area of the tire with soapy water. Place the tire opening over the edge of the rim and push down firmly. Work the tire down as far as you can, then place the rim protectors on the rim at each edge of the tire-rim overlap. Using the straight end of the tire iron, then work the bottom bead to past the top edge of the rim. Push the side of the tire that is already on the rim into the rim center to get the slack needed to clear the rim on the far side. The lower tire bead should be on the rim at this point. Repeat the process with the top bead. Rotate the tire so the mark indicating the valve stem position is aligned with the valve stem. Inflate with compressed air to seat the beads. Once you hear both beads seat, and pop, release the air and replace the valve stem core. Inflate the tire to the manufacturer’s specified pressure.

Even very little kids enjoy threading beads on to a string. AJ and I sat down together to make this beaded curtain for her door way and it held her attention span briefly, then she was off doing her own free-form beading experiments (her stuffed dog got a new collar, bracelet and watch) leaving me to finish the curtain – but it was a peaceful way to spend an hour or so. I started by cutting about 10 doorway lengths of string and tying a bead to the bottom of each to give them a bit of weight for when they are hanging. I then cut the straws into lengths of around 4cm although as you can see from the photo the lengths vary giving it a bit of a crazy, haphazard look, which I quite like. We then threaded the bits of straw on to the lengths of string and tied off the ends.

I threaded all of these lengths on to one long string at the top which spanned the width of the doorframe, and then crudely stuck each end of this on to the doorframe with tape. It’s a rough little project but quite cute and easy. I have seen a similar curtain that also included plastic beads and artificial flowers amongst the straw lengths.
